Okay! So let's get this show on the road!
It's a new JET year and nothing makes this cycle more special than our new JETs themselves.
I'm sure we all fondly remember being a newbie with the hope of making new friends in a foreign land. Well, senpai JETs, it's on you to show our new JETs just how awesome our prefecture can be.
And new JETs, this is the perfect opportunity to meet new people and see all that Tohoku's grandest city has to offer.
It's our annual MAJET Welcome Party! And each and every one of you Miyagi JETs are invited.
You can expect a memorable night with an 8 course Japanese style dinner and all you can drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. Thereafter feel free to explore Sendai and enjoy more drinking at one of the many bars, karaoke if you'd like to flex those vocal cords, Mario Kart and claw machines at the gaming arcades, or all of the above. Whichever tickles your fancy.

But we'll continue to bring you the important info about our yearly events! So keep your eyes posted for new things popping up!
Sign-up for the yearly trip to Mt. Bandai in Fukushima is now live! This year's journey will take place on October 10-12 (Sat.-Mon.). Now that we have said goodbye to the leavers, it is time to welcome new Sendai and Miyagi JETs to our lovely prefecture!

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday!! It was our first event as the new MAJET Committee and it was a lot of fun!
After a successful journey to Sapporo for Yuki Matsuri, MAJET put on our first ever Izakaya Quiz in Sendai during March! (To be distinguished from prior pub quizzes.)
Four teams competed in a Jeopardy-style battle, and fortunately there were no casualties by the end of the night! In April, we had a less successful hanami event; however, we blame it on the weather!
Now that things have finally warmed up in Miyagi, we would like to announce the next round of events! In late May or early June, we will organize a Mt. Kurikoma climb - our first event of this kind. In late June, we will have our annual Leavers Party on Oshima Island. And in July, we will once again hold the Miyagi International Art & Culture Show! More details on these events can be found on their respective pages. Hope you can make it out!
With MAJET Halloween and MAJET Thanksgiving now successfully behind us, it is time to start getting ready for our next big event, the annual journey to Hokkaido for the Sapporo Snow Festival (or Yuki Matsuri)!
The basic details for the trip are now available here: http://www.ajetmiyagi.net/sapporo-snow-festival-2014.html, and the official sign-up form as well as furikomi details will be coming very soon! We will keep you posted!
That sad (or happy, depending on how you look at it) time of the year is coming when we must say goodbye to those who are leaving Miyagi.
Following tradition, this year's Leavers Party will take place on Oshima Island on Saturday, July 6.
For more information (and to sign up!), please check out: the Oshima Leavers Party page.
Hope to see you there whether you are leaving or staying!
We'd like to announce that MAJET along with SIRA, MIA, and the JET community will be putting together an art and culture show this summer. Please follow our blog for the latest updateshttp://artinmiyagi.wordpress.com/
July 12-14, 2013
Sendai Shimin Katsudo Theatre – Miyagi-ken, Japan
Admission to the event is FREE.
The purpose of this show is to highlight art from international artists living in the Miyagi and greater Tohoku area. The show will include a variety of art submissions including: paintings, sculpture, and craft work. There will also be culture workshops and performances throughout the show.
This show is being put on through a collaborative effort between (SIRA) Sendai International Relations Association, MIA (Miyagi International Association), MAJET (Miyagi Association of JET), and the Miyagi JET community.
If you are interested in submitting your own work to the show, conducting a workshop, or performing, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. All are welcome!
SPRING IS COMING.
You have survived. As ALTs across the country emerge from their kotatsus, wiping sembei crumbs from their clothes and blinking their eyes in the spring light, it becomes clear that finally, the season has changed.
Spring officially springs in Japan when the cherry blossoms arrive, at which point there is a frenzy of partying as everyone with a tarpaulin and a highball sets up in the park for a flower viewing (hanami or 花見) party. Far from being an event of reserved Zen calm, hanami is often an exciting and bustling event, with food, and booze being shared among friends, families and co-workers.
To celebrate Hanami, MAJET will be hosting a Hanami party! Tsutsujigaoka Park in Sendai contains the tree from which Sendai’s Hanami forecasts are made; when a certain percentage is covered, it’s hanami time.
This year’s party will be held at Tsutsujigaoka Park. We are aiming to host it on April 13th, although this can change depending on the weather, and whether Hanami will have been officially declared. Check out our Hanami page for the full details.
