Our code of conduct

MAJET Volunteer Code of Conduct
Purpose
This Code of Conduct establishes expectations for all MAJET volunteers and committee members. Its goal is to ensure that everyone involved with MAJET acts respectfully, responsibly, and in a way that supports our mission to foster connection, professional growth, and community among JET participants and local residents in Miyagi Prefecture.
Standards of Conduct
All MAJET volunteers are expected to:
  1. Act with Integrity
Perform all volunteer duties honestly, responsibly, and ethically.
  2. Show Respect and Courtesy
Treat all MAJET members, volunteers, JETs, and community partners with kindness, fairness, and respect.
  3. Promote Inclusivity
MAJET celebrates diversity. Volunteers must not discriminate or harass anyone based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic.
  4. Avoid Harassment or Bullying
Harassment, intimidation, or bullying—whether verbal, physical, or online—will not be tolerated. Disagreements should be handled with professionalism and empathy.
  5. Follow the Law and JET Programme Guidelines
Volunteers must comply with Japanese laws and follow JET Programme and CLAIR/BOE expectations while representing MAJET.
  6. Ensure Accountability
Volunteers should model appropriate behavior and encourage others to uphold these standards. Concerns about conduct may be raised to the MAJET Committee.
Attendance and Reliability
MAJET relies on volunteers’ commitment. Please be punctual, communicate early if you are unable to attend an event, and coordinate with another member to ensure smooth event operations.

Substance Use
Volunteers must represent MAJET responsibly.
  • Alcohol consumption at MAJET events must remain moderate and respectful.
  • Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited.
  • Smoking and vaping should only occur in designated areas and never during official MAJET activities.

Health, Safety, and Stewardship
Volunteers are expected to use good judgment, prioritize safety, and follow event guidelines. MAJET activities may include hiking, travel, and social events—participants should act responsibly to prevent harm or risk to themselves or others.

Compliance and Accountability
If a volunteer’s actions violate this Code or compromise MAJET’s integrity, the Committee may take action, including warnings, suspension from activities, or removal from leadership roles. Serious issues may be reported to appropriate JET Programme authorities.

Raising Concerns
If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code, please contact the MAJET Committee directly at [email protected]. Reports will be handled respectfully and confidentially whenever possible.

Commitment
By volunteering with MAJET, you agree to uphold these standards and help create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all.
