2014 Miyagi International Art & Culture Show
The chance has come to display your creative
talents—we are officially opening up the call for submissions for the 2014 Miyagi International Art & Culture Show!
To give a bit of background history, the Art & Culture Show used to be a yearly event in which the residents of Miyagi (primarily Miyagi and Sendai ALTs) got to showcase their artistic and musical talents as well as introduce various aspects of their cultures through workshops. Although the show did not take place in 2011 and 2012 due to the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster, last year saw the return of the event, and this time it was not just Miyagi and Sendai JETs who contributed, but members of the larger Sendai and Miyagi international community as well (Tohoku University, etc.)! The theme of this year’s show is Mosaic (following last year’s theme of Revival), and the main idea is to spread a message of positive diversity/multiculturalism while making some friends. Please note that talent performances and workshops do not have to adhere literally to the theme. Rather, the theme is meant to be a springboard for inspiration and will serve as the general backdrop for the event. We are looking for contributors in the following areas: 1) 2D/3D Art (drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture, crafts, jewelry, etc.) 2) Talent Performances (music, singing, dancing, comedy, slam poetry reading, etc.) 3) Cultural Workshops As far as the workshops go, anything that teaches a unique form of artistic expression in your respective home country and engages the participants will work! Our 2011 workshop themes included: Aboriginal Dot Painting, Knitting and Crocheting, Henna Painting, and Martial Arts (Japanese and Filipino). If you are interested in submitting art, leading a workshop, and/or performing at the show, please let us know at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing about your ideas!
