Miyagi Prefecture is home to many people from all corners of the Earth. MAJET is proud to say that many of our fellow JETs give back to their communities in many ways; local volunteer programs, donations, and assisting where needed. MAJET is proud to introduce the MAJET LEGACY program which will uphold our need to contribute to our communities each year and provide a platform and space to share our community's stories.

Sendai Food Bank Donation (2021)
"I want to express our gratitude to all those who helped make our fundraiser for Food Bank Sendai successful. Through the action of Miyagi JETs, Yamagata JETs, former JETs, the community, and the generosity of others, we managed to raise 103,000 yen! This money will go towards directly helping a great number of people in our area directly."
- Eli Walgrave, Event Coordinator 2020- 2021
Food Bank Sendai started about two years ago to fill a gap in support in Miyagi. Especially during the current pandemic, more and more people need that support. Everyone at Food Bank Sendai is a volunteer, and all money donated goes directly to procuring food and supplies for those in need. The Food Bank helps everyone who needs it. About 40 percent of the people that the Food Bank help are foreign residents. In addition, they have strong connections with work counseling services and various labor unions, which they use to help mitigate current short-term problems while treating the long-term struggles. They always accept more volunteers, so if you have some time, please consider checking them out. You can find out more at https://foodbanksendai.com or send them an email at [email protected]
We would like to thank the following people for their support and donations:

Red Cross Donation (2020)
2019 - 2020 MAJET Committee raised 30,000 yen to donate to Red Cross Japan!
Playground of Hope (2018)
Playground of Hope is an NGO that builds playgrounds in tsunami affected areas. The playground was around for about six years but it was significantly worn down. During the spring of 2018, A group of 20 volunteers from MAJET set off to Ishinomaki to help with maintenance and cleaning. When they got to the park, Matsunami Koen, the volunteers were shown how to sand down and re-coat the wood. They even picked up trash from around the park where people had littered.
“While not the most glamorous of work, it was nice to be able to give back to Miyagi's community in some small way.”
- Chris McCoy, MAJET President 2017-19
