At a GlanceIwanuma Station is where two major train routes link; the JR Tohoku line and the JR Jouban line. If you get on the wrong train you will have to backtrack to here. Fortunately, while you are waiting for the correct train, you can enjoy all the sites the city has to offer! From yakitori to the famous Kanahebisui shrine and much more! Iwanuma is a true foodie's paradise as well.
DID YOU KNOW? Iwanuma City is the setting for the anime, Bakuten!!. The story follows a young high schooler who discovers the world of Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics. This anime is part of a three part plan called Zutto Ouen Project 2011 + 10.. (ずっとおうえん。プロジェクト 2011+10…) These anime are about the affected areas of the Great Tohoku Earthquake and will be aired on Fuji TV to try to help promote the affected areas. |

Wataya - 笑多屋
An izakaya known for its yakitori! Since it is an izakaya it is only open at night. It is a decently priced izakaya that offers courses priced from 1000 to 3000 yen! There is also a location in Sendai City. Bistro Le Circle - ビストロ・ル・セルクル A French restaurant offering various three and four course meals for both lunch and dinner. The Chef's Recommendation course is definitely the best though, given it rotates depending on the day! Doix Lapans - ドゥ ラパン Another French restaurant located in Iwanuma, this time far more upscale than Le Cricle. If you want fine French dining, this is the place! The perfect spot to take someone on either a date or just to impress them. Rantakuya Gin - 卵匠家吟 A seafood restaurant across the river in Iwanuma. Serving up massive plates of seafood pasta, complete with whole crabs in them! A wide variety of foods are available though, from hamburgers to pizza. |
Magic Cafe - マジックカフェ
Small cafe located near Iwanuma Station. Has cheap prices. Coffee and Curry House Reimon - コーヒー&カレーハウス礼門 A cafe of sorts located near Iwanuma Station. There's a number of curries to choose from, with a choose-your-spice level option as well. Cache Cache - カシュカシュ Cafe located close to Iwanuma Station, featuring French-Japanese fusion set meals at a reasonable price. Cafe DaoTao - カフェDaoTao A smaller cafe popular with foreigners. The lunch options are reasonably priced, as are the desserts on offer. Cafe Chocott - カフェchocott Small cafe just off of Route 4. While not the largest cafe, it certainly makes up for it in both price and taste. |
Lapras Pokemon Manhole - Togipii
Did you know that Miyagi's Ambassador Pokemon is Lapras? There are 35 decorative Lapras Manhole Covers all over the Sanriku Coast of Miyagi! Togepi is actually in a peculiar location. It's a journey to get there but it's by a Japanese sweets store called Tsutsumiya that specializes in dango. If you go and see Togepi you should try out some dango too! |
Takekoma Inari Shrine - 竹駒稲荷神社
One of the biggest attractions of Iwanuma. Takekoma Inari shrine is said to the be the second oldest shrine dedicated to Inari, one of the more popular deities in Japan. They hold an annual festival to celebrate the Lunar New Year and it draws many tourists. There's also a horsemanship museum at the shrine. Kanahebisui Shrine - 金蛇水神社 As the name implies, this shrine is dedicated to the golden serpent water god. People come here to pray for fortune, luck, and healing. People line up to rub the snake rocks, thought to awaken the snakes within to bless them. Every May there is a flower festival featuring wisteria, allegedly over 300 hundred years old, and peonies, which there are over 100 varieties of and span about 3000 square meters. There is no entrance fee except when there are flower festivals. |
Iwanuma Green Peer - グリーンピア岩沼
A park on the border of Iwanuma and Murata. This is one of the biggest parks in Iwanuma. It has plenty of things to do like hiking, hiking, and MORE hiking! If you like hiking, this is the place for you. Iwanuma Sheep Village - いわぬまひつじ村
Do you like sheep? If so, this is the place for you! Located on the coast, you can spend time petting lambs while looking out over the sea. |
