Tagajo Hike + Food Drive

11/19/2025

   Hello as always!
We have entered the coldest part of fall - soon turning to winter and entering the holiday season. MAJET urges all its members to change their tires, buy warm clothes, and get ready to stay cozy in this chilly season. Last weekend, on November 16th, MAJET members embarked on a newly opened Olle Trail in Tagajo. We were able to see parts of Tagajo that many members weren't previously familiar with. The autumn leaves were beautiful and bright, contrasting perfectly against the bright blue sky.

These memories are perfectly encapsulated by these edits by Angie!

OLLE TRAIL HIKE WITH MAJET!

Two New Olle Hiking Courses Opening – Join MAJET and Explore Miyagi!
What is an Olle Trail?
Excerpt from the Asia Trails Conference website:
The Olle trekking courses, which originated on Jeju Island in South Korea, take their name from the Jeju dialect word meaning "a narrow alleyway leading from the street to a house." The appeal of Olle lies in the ability to intimately experience nature, such as coastlines and mountains, and the alleyways of local homes, allowing you to walk at your own pace and enjoy the surroundings.
Courses are typically 10km and rated as beginner friendly.
Two New Trails Opening
Miyagi currently boasts five Olle trekking courses and this November, two brand new ones will open!
November 15th – Zao / Togatta Hot Spring Trail Course
You'll stroll through beautiful natural highlands, gaze upon the grand Zao mountain range, and discover the area's rich history, daily life, culinary delights, and soothing onsen.
November 16th – Tagajo Trail Course
This course takes visitors through famous poetic landmarks such as the Noda no Tamagawa and Ukishima before arriving at the National Treasure Tagajo Stele and the reconstructed South Gate of Tagajo Castle.
MAJET representatives will be attending both days, so join us for one or both hikes for an unforgettable adventure!

MAJET invites you to our Welcome Party on October 3rd!

MAJET is a volunteer, community-driven organization for current JET Programme participants, dedicated to personal and professional growth. We host a wide range of events, from hiking and strawberry picking to skill-building conferences and more.

This welcome party is the perfect chance to meet fellow JETs, connect with current MAJET members, and learn more about what we do. Hello 2025!

  Happy 2025 from MAJET!

Wow, it's been awhile since we were able to write any updates on this blog. We apologize for the long hiatus and are so excited to get events, posts, and more put out to the community here. In 2024, we had some fun events - our first meeting at Ceskoya after the long silent streak was a lot of fun! The Halloween get together, Thanksgiving Potluck, and Pageant of Starlight were great too. Of course, we are all getting used to these events again (both planning and attending!) and learning a lot with each event. We hope to continue to improve the quality of our meetings in 2025!

Our first event of 2025 was a wonderful Ski trip out in Zao. MAJET members were able to learn new skills, flex their winter sports muscles, and make memories! Check out the photos below.

Speaking of photos - Do you have any beautiful pictures of Miyagi Prefecture you'd like to see on the website? We are working to spruce this site up a little and add images of our very own Miyagi. I know we have some wonderful photographers in this community - please let us know!

Stay safe and don't catch a cold!

Welcome to Miyagi everyone! Congratulations! You finally made it!   I'm happy to welcome you to Miyagi! Miyagi and MAJET has a lot to offer you from hiking in the Ou Mountain range, beautiful cherry blossoms, to just the basic Trivia Nights! We hope you are just as excited as we are to meet you! Miyagi JETs are really one-of-a-kind and we're known for being super friendly so don't be afraid to say hi!

If you're looking to get familiar with your placement and area, please check out our new Area Guides! We also have helpful articles written by fellow JETs to help you get accustomed to life in Japan! As for our other means of communication, please check out our Facebook, Instagram, or just email us at [email protected].  Stop by and say hi and ask questions!

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we have had difficulties hosting IRL events. To compensate, we hosted several online events that we're quite popular. Hopefully by the time you arrive we will be able to host events like we did in the past! I'm looking forward to meet you!  See you in a few months!

WELCOME TO THE RICE FIELDS Y'ALL!
