SPRING IS COMING. You have survived. As ALTs across the country emerge from their kotatsus, wiping sembei crumbs from their clothes and blinking their eyes in the spring light, it becomes clear that finally, the season has changed. Spring officially springs in Japan when the cherry blossoms arrive, at which point there is a frenzy of partying as everyone with a tarpaulin and a highball sets up in the park for a flower viewing (hanami or 花見) party. Far from being an event of reserved Zen calm, hanami is often an exciting and bustling event, with food, and booze being shared among friends, families and co-workers. To celebrate Hanami, MAJET will be hosting a Hanami party! Tsutsujigaoka Park in Sendai contains the tree from which Sendai’s Hanami forecasts are made; when a certain percentage is covered, it’s hanami time. This year’s party will be held at Tsutsujigaoka Park. We are aiming to host it on April 13th, although this can change depending on the weather, and whether Hanami will have been officially declared. Check out our Hanami page for the full details.
